Are they different in size, P4M and P4 desktop? Both 400 MHz

The same as my other thread. This is concerning my IBM laptop. I was wondering if the size are the same between those two.

If yes, I'm gonna try to put desktop one instead of mobile one because of better performance.

lmk

thanks

I would assume they are the same size but the mobile puts off much less heat because of lower vcore... check your motherboard specs out and find the socket type....

If you get another socket 478 chip yes they will be the same size but just remember a desktop chip WILL put out more heat!

As long as you don't have that rare small form factor model 80534 Northwood B0 stepping P4 we discussed before you are good to go. From the pic of the mainboard you linke from that E-bay auction it looks like you are all set and I can't find any info for that SFF P4 being used anywhere but Asia. I suppose the worst case senario is just that you'd have to return the CPU if it isn't compatable so buy it from some without a restocking fee just in case but I think your right that there is no way it's that SFF chip IBM said it is.

hi, thanks for your helps. I am sure 100% that this one is not SFF one. It's just I am not 100% sure my laptop can handle desktop cpu.

I am still thinking whether to get the mobile one or the desktop one.

thanks a lot guys. I really appreciate it.
