Are these video card temps too high?

I've got the passively cooled gigabyte x800xl, and according to ati tray tools, it gets up to 78C after a good half hour of gaming (cs:s or ut2k4). Nothing's crashed yet, but I'm wondering if it's good for my video card in the long run to sustain such high temperatures. Plus, I'll be moving into my new dorm next week, which is on the 5th floor with no air conditioning, in really really hot weather (maryland). Should I invest in a Zalman Vf700Cu?

Edit: holy crap. I was just looking at the graphs for maximum and minimum temps on the card and it went not just to 78C, but to 89C.

Dose it level off at 78c or dose it keep rising?, anything much past 85C and I'd be worried. The passive Gigabyte heatsinks are known to be pretty poor performers. I remember one review having heating issues (glitches and crashes) with the stock cooler, they ended up replacing the stock cooling with a passive Zalman and all was well.

Yeah actually I just looked at some graphs that were recorded while I was playing, and it actually maxed out at 89C.

Well, those cards are known to get really hot. The VF-700 is a very good option, and should keep your card is the low 70s. If I don't manually set the fan of my x850xt @ 30-40% using Tray Tools, it gets in the low 90s area too.

Yeah, I just enjoy having as few fans in my system as possible. However, ambient temperatures are going to increase (i assume) when I don't have air conditioning, as right now they're 29C. Will this cause problems?

Did you oc your cpu, and by how much? How many fans do you currently have in your case? You would need a few good case fans to blow on your NB cooler and your GPU...

Nah, I'm not OC'ing. My case is built for silence, so my two front 80mm are controlled by the "fan only" connectors on my Antec psu, and the rear 80mm is turned down to 5v. But as I said, it's stable. I was just wondering if these sort of temps were bad for my card in the long run.
