Are these times for a SETI work unit right?

Should I be expecting 4 1/2 hour times on my new system? Here are the specs:

AMD Socket A Athlon 1100 running at 100mhz FSB (it's really a 1000, but I changed the multiplier)
Asus A7V rev. 1.02 1004C BIOS
128MB Micron PC133 RAM running at 133mhz 2-2-2

I've tweaked the BIOS as much as I know how, but are there any other tweaks that I should know about that would drop my times down even more? I'm thinking about upping my FSB to 110 or so, but I'm not sure if the RAM will still run CAS2 at 143mhz.

Are you able to select 4 way interlaeve in the bios? if so enable that & test for stability .
Try for 110 FSB ,but work your way there up in small steps ,I would of thought your RAM would be ok for 143 MHz :)

i bought a bunch of pc133 cas2 ram from crucial
and i am running it at 150 without problems
is your micron ram really micron or is it labeled crucial?

ok, well, i can only run at 140mhz while staying 2-2-2. if i bump the fsb to 107, my ram runs at 142mhz 3-2-2. so, my system now is 1155 with a fsb of 105, and ram speed of 140.

cory, i'm going to change the multiplier to 11.5 right now, so i'll chack on the ram, but it had crucial labels stuck all over it, and the warranty is voided if i remove them.

the only choices i have for "dimm interleave" settings are "auto" and "disable." i chose "auto." my system is running in "optimal" mode, so i think that might have some effect on whether or not the "auto" mode chooses 4-way interleave or not. i know it changes the agp bus to 4x. maybe some corellation...? :p

if you have a crucial label it is the good stuff.

make sure you override the settings in the bios.
it will try and lower the values if set on auto.
just force it to the faster setting.

it should handle the 142.

i have sone tiny bga ram pc133 that would not go much above
140. that is why i started buying crucial.

altho you can get pc150 ram fron tiny now.

Tetsuo: I just put my new MB and CPU in. I purchased the MSI Pro2 and an 800Tb. I didn't start running seti until I figured out my limits. First WU 4hr 39 min, 2nd @ 4hr 25 min. I am so stoked about this. No MORE 12 HOUR WORK UNITS. Ok, thats not true cause i put the old mb and cpu in a cheap case with an ancient HD, Video and NIC. So it is still working away too.

So actually I would hope you could get slightly better times, because I am still using my old generic pc100 ram, and I can only max out my FSB at 102. My 800 has been rock stable at 102X9.5 so far. In fact it is running so well like this I am reluctant to change anything else in the bios.

Good luck with upping your FSB. I would think that is your best chance of speeding it up.

update: 3rd WU completed in 4:04. I hope this trend continues. Sub 4 hour WU's would rock.

i'm at work right now, so i can't change anything now. when i get back though, i'll take off the "by spd" setting and change it to 2-2-2 and see how high i can get the fsb. the kt133 motherboard doesn't really go up past 110, and before at the 11.5 multiplier i couldn't get above 107fsb. what's stronger for seti: 11*110=1210 or 11.5*107=1230?

The 110 FSB should get you slightly better performance, since that will also translate to an increase in your memory speed...

i knew seti was memory dependent, but the 3mhz difference for the memory is better than 20mhz system? even with gui 3.0?

I'm not 100% sure (you'd have to try it to be sure) but a 2.8% increase to the entire system should translate into better performance than a 1.6% increase to just the CPU speed...

I've got 2 systems (1000Mhz Athlon, Asus K7m / 900Mhz TB Abit KT7)
& my WU times are 15-18 Hours Per WU.
Both systems have over 128 MB ram @cas2
OS - WIN98

Any info that helps cut hours off my WU's will be greatly appreciated.
thanks

if you have seti@home as your screensaver, make sure that it's set to go to blank screen after 0 minutes. displaying the graphics greatly increases your times. also, what other programs do you have running in the background? you might also want to download taskinfo, and change seti's priority from 'idle' to 'normal'.

Incase you didnt know ,'blank screen' setting is in the screensaver tab.
BTW your WU times are way over! ,which version of SETI are you running?
Idle priority should be enough for most users for SETI

setiq says just under 4 hours for the gui3.0. thst's cool with me! i think i may try to increase my fsb a little more to see how much faster i can go.

Thanks for the info on "How to increase my WU performance"
Now instead of 2-4 WU a day I'm getting 10-12 w/the same hardware. :)

I left for work this morning @ 7am(ish) & returned @ around 6:10pm
& Seti had 6 WU already completed :)

Thanks Guys, I probably should join Team Anandtech...

Well the only reason I haven't already joined TA is because I'm already part of the BP6 users Group...but since the BP6 hasn't been used for quite some time now I've thought about changing teams. You guys answered some questions for me & now my WU times are flying! :) So I think it's fair to switch teams at this point.
Thanks for the help.

Welcome aboard :D

Beers are in the post to ya ;)
BTW I think 1 or 2 ex TA'ers went to BP6 group ,do you think you can convince them to return to the fold? ;)
