Are these temps correct?

I just got an abit kd7 (kt400) motherboard and an athlon 2600+, plus 512mb pc 2700. The cooler is a coolermaster HAC-V81 (X-dream variable)

however, the hardware doctor says that the system is 52 degrees, and the cpu is 51 (when the fan is in full operation)!

the room temperature is about 37 degrees (summer is hot here)

anyway, when i lower the speed of the fan, the system temperature instantly goes up, and the cpu goes up slowly, until system reaches 60, and cpu 54 degrees.

I think that the hardware doctor program is confusing the sensors - and swapping them - what do you guys think?

Is the degrees achied good for this relatively big heatsink/fan?

What is the max temperature an athlon 2600+ can reach before there is permanent damage to it?

Thanks

I run 26/40 C with an Athlon 2400+, about a 14 C difference between the two. Your difference is more. I thought the new CPUs were cooler? You might try reinstalling the HS. The sensor thing is very strange. Maybe you could try a different program, eg MBM (motherboard monitor). I use MBM.

Summers here are mostly cool, the low was 44 F last night (Renton, WA).

51 deg. of Celsius can be normal in such conditions if your room temps are around 37 deg. of C. AMD's run always a
little bit hotter than Intel and in my room I have around 28 deg. of C. right now in the hot summer and my Celeron 2.0 GHz
runs at about 47 deg. o C. but I have lowered the fan to it's minimum using TITAN Fan Speed Controler ACC2

For your amient room temperature, that 52c is fine. You won't do permanent damage until you get over 75c, maybe even 80. I would only worry if it got over 65c, but it does sound like you could use better case cooling (another fan ?)

i got 3 case fans, one on the back, one on the side, just under my radeon 9700, and one on the front, low (the back is exhaust, and the other two are intake)
