Are the original titles for the popular Witcher2:Assassins and Batman-City namely Witcher1 and Arkham Asylum worth playing after completing their later sequels?

Also are the Stalker games (Shadows, Clear Sky, Pripyat) stable and worth the money? The 1st game was apparently riddled with bugs.

Edit :-

Thanks for the replies, now which of the Bioshock, Dragon Age and Assassins Creed sequels are good to jump into for someone who hasn't played _any_ of the games - not even the 1st one (eg Bioshock1, Origin etc).

I'm playing through Witcher 1 right now and it's a lot of fun, but I haven't played 2 yet except for the tutorial. The story is good but from what I've seen the combat is hit or miss as to whether people like it or not. Considering you can get it for like $2.50 I wouldn't pass it up unless you have no time to play it.

Witcher 1 I never got far with there was a lot of problems, they did fix a whole lot of them in what was an almost complete overhaul of the game in a later update/patch, but quite frankly it was a bit too "RPG" for it's own good. The Witcher 2 I've gotten on much better with despite it's own flaws.

Arkham Asylum was one of the console to PC ports that I really truly enjoyed, I actually got 100% completed in that game which is pretty rare for me, I can't speak with respect to Arkham City though since i've not played that (thanks to GFWL boycott)

The people that hate on the Witcher 1, for the most part, didn't give it a fair shot. The later game is much better; the story improves, combat becomes more varied, spells and alchemy really add to the experience. It is a long game though, so if you don't have the time to keep playing it, you're going to get bored and not finish it.

It's also worth noting that CDProjekt is an excellent company to spend your money on. They do everything right - it's all about the customer. DLC is free, patches are substantial, and they put a lot of love into their games.

Arkham Asylum is totally worth it.

Far Cry is much better than Far Cry 2.

Yes.

STALKER: SOC is one of the best games I've played, and arguably better than the 3rd. The community patches all but eliminate the bugs, plus add a ton of replay value.

I think both are excellent games but I have to agree that TW1 seems to be more or less a hate it or love it kind of game. If you do decide to get TW1 make sure you get the Enhanced Edition (not sure if the original is even being sold these days) as it greatly improves the game.

I loved the STALKER games. Best one is COP, but SOC is great as well. There are complete mods that upgrade graphics, but I did not download them. The graphics were fine for me. However DO patch both games. I had no trouble at all with bugs, though load times can be a little long. Plus they are cheap now.

The Witcher 1 seems to be very polarizing. Personally, I loved it and would recommend it to anyone who enjoys an RPG with a dark, mature story.

I just finished Witcher and moved on to Witcher 2. I didn't love Witcher but thought it was good. So far Witcher 2 is not fun: arm wrestling is boring, fistfighting is easy, dice poker cheats incessantly, combat is even lamer than Witcher, inventory is atrocious. I can't say whether the story is better than Witcher or not but the gameplay systems seem far worse.

Batman AA is definitely worth it. I didn't like the Witcher 1 at all and I thought the sequel was GOTY. It might be worth trying if you can get it cheap enough at gog. Just give it some time (past the first village) because it takes a while to get going.

The Witcher 1 is an amazing RPG, if you want something that's extremely well-written with a good storyline and interesting characters.

If you're not into those things then it might not hold your interest.

I decided to replay The Witcher 1 to gear up for another go at TW2.

I still think it's a good game. There is a lot of mundane running around early on, but if you approach it as a deep RPG rather than an action RPG it's not out of place.

It's looks great in eyefinity, but unfortunately you have to play on low lighting quality for the cutscenes to play for some reason. It looks fine.

I love the dice game, but they defintely borked it a bit with the upgrade.

Witcher 1 is an unequivocal "no". Skipped W2 because of it.

My opinion is Witcher 1 is a good game and worth buying IMHO,you always get some people that disagree, end of the day only you can really find out if you like it or not, remember for every person that dislike a game there are others that like it.

Batman yes.

Dragon Age Yes.

Assassins Creed: I say yes, but don't bother with 100% completion, its super repetitive. Just get the story down.

The Witcher 1 and 2 are some of the best RPGs, and games in general, to come out this decade. They are must have titles that every one should own. CDP's formula of giving the customer a great game, free from any DRM, and supporting it above and beyond what any other studio does should be emulated by all developers.

The only reason you should buy DA2, on the other hand, is to poo in the box and ship it to EA's corporate HQ.

I haven't actually played any game of either series as per my post, so which game are you refering to? DA1, DA2, ACreed1, ACreed2? I liked the Splinter Cell/Thief games so I thought I might give DA/Creed a try.

I hated DA1 but others seem to love it but Assassin's Creed 2 was a really good game, much better than the first one.

Whoops, I misread your edit.

To clarify on those, I'd def play AC2 since it was an all around improvement from AC1.

Dragon Age sequels didn't seem all that great, I'd avoid them.

Bioshock 2 gameplay was better, but story was weak. Overall, did not like.

Dragon Age Origins and Awakening are great. Skip DA2.

Witcher 1 has amazing story, unparalleled atmosphere, but weak combat. If you like a good story, get it. It's really cheap. Witcher 2 improves on almost every aspect of the game.

Assassin's Creed 1: Very repetitive. AC2 is faaar better.

Arkham Asylum: Amazing action game.

I haven't played the Bioshock series, but I've heard the first one is the better one.

I can not speak for AC and DA.

Get the complete STALKER series, you will be glad you did.

There is a complete mod for each and I recommend them.

Clear Sky was the only bugged game, and it is now very playable.
