i burned a 634MB data in 5:30min and a 46min cd (12 tracks, 468MB) in 4:30min...using a teac 24x10x40 drive...i used nero and all data and audio were on my 40gb 7200rpm maxtor hard drive...

i used a cheap cdr for the data but i used a fujifilm 80min (taiyo yuden) for the audio cd...can anyone tell me how there 24x drives compare? TIAEDIT: ok...checking DMA fixed it...i have my 2 hard drives on the primary channel with DMA on...for my secondary channel i have my Lite-on DVD as master and teac 24x burner as slave...i can only set the master drive with DMA on...regardless if i swap the burner and dvd...any help to get both with DMA on? TIA

seems a little behind my burner ushally records under 4 mins! remember you can be limited by the speed of your system!

i just put together a new system...haven't installed any software besides win98se and nero and cd dae99...

AMD Duron 950mhz
ECS K7S5A
256MB PC133 SDRAM
Maxtor 40GB 7200
Lite-On 163D DVD-ROM (16x48)
Teac CD-W524E (24x10x40)

all are new components...duron 950 shouldn't limit it right? i hope not 😛

That can't be right for 24X because my 16X completes full 700Meg CDs in right around 5 minutes. Either the burner is stepping the speed down because it "knows" that it's cheap media (unlikely because your time with the Fuji is pretty bad also) or something is causing your burner to run into buffer underruns which are saved by modern burners' anti-underrun technologies. Have you made sure DMA is enabled for the burner?

enabling dma fixed it...i had to move the burner to secondary master to enable dma...how come the secondary slave won't allow me to turn dma on?
