Hi, I'm new here. I am not new to computers but im pretty new to all this cooling thing (I recently got a new computer that actually produces heat!).

Anyway my question is, is 32/33C at idle ok? It goes up to about 35 when using for a while and around 40ish when playing new games like HL2. Temp in room is 33 deg C or so my comp says.

Ive tried my best to get some research in and build this comp with ample fans/fan controller. Should i be worried about these temps?

they are thermaltake standard 80mm ones. 4 of them. The cpu one is a thermaltake "silent boost" (Thoght it was good cos i use 1 as air con at work lol). Im glad to hear the temps are ok, I dont want my setup going boom!

I don't know but I wouldn't place too much emphasis on sensor temps. My Abit AX8 board with Venus 3800 and XP-90 produces 57c under load...45c idle according to motherboard bios and under the uGuru under windows 50c load and 43idle. So which one is right? Maybe neither according to a poster to the Abit forum. If your XP-90 is getting very warm to the touch this should be an indication of good heat transfer.

I posted to the Abit forum and here is what one guy named Jester said:

Neither one
With an Xp90 installed correctly with the right amount of thermal compound you should see temps no higher than 20c above fan intake temp, I've seen several tests on the Xp90 and my 2 back up their findings, a C/W of around 0.24, so with a fully loaded stock A64 at around 85w you get 85 x .24 = 20.4c above fan intake temp, and that's assuming all the heat is being radiated by the Hsf, (a little leaves via the mobo itself) anything higher is defying simple maths, and logic.

c/w is a measurement of the Hsf's ability to transfer heat, the intake temp is measured an inch or so away from the intake side of the fan, Only thing i forgot to add to the equation was the inherent c/w of the chip itself, from the diode in the centre of the core to the heatspreader. Adding a fresh air duct to a closed case does 2 things, draws cooler outside air straight into the fan, and if the duct is large enough to cover the whole fan, it prevents recirulation of heated air before the case fans can extract it.

Should idle between 32 and 40C with the AX8 at stock speed and 25C room temp. Have built three of these units. The room temp, case ventilation, and amount of overclock are the biggest variables.

You still havent mentioned what CPU you have, so we can't tell you if your temps are good or not (even if they sound like they are.)
