Are these core temps too high?

Hi all,

I am very worried about my idle temperature. Although I happy I managed to clock my Q6600 to 3.6Ghz I get an idle core temp of around 50oC-56oCmax (according to Speedfan, Realtemp and HWMonitor)

This reading is taken after 2-3 hours doing mostly web browsing. My case is an Antec 900 and I tried my best to ensure optimum air flow. I have Medium setting for the big fan, x2 medium on the front intakes (120mm) high on the rear exhaust (120mm) and system controlled for side intake , which is usually around 800rpm-ish. (120mm).

My system temps idles at 32oC and CPU temps are around 39oC. My ambient room temp is 28oC the highest (my wife likes to crank up the heating, even in summer :S) I would say mostly 22oC on average.

Is the core temps high because the AS5 paste haven't settled yet? Or am I pushing the OC too far? I have came across people saying their Q6600 runs at 30oC the most at idle :(

I hope someone could give me some input regarding this matter. Thanks.

You have to take account on how their cooling is set up though, like they have different casing, better CPU cooler, low room temp. Or perhaps they're just running their Q6600 at stock with the lowest VCore possible.

I have a Q6600 B3 stepping, it's 32oC room temp all day long, 33oC in the afternoons, and my idle temp according to Core Temp is 54, 55, 49, 51. And this is just running it at 3GHz 1.325V BIOS, 1.280V CPU-Z.

Comparing mine to yours, I say your temps are normal, given the fact you have lower room temp than mine and that you're running it at 3.6GHz with 1.424V Vcore.

Here is the correct way to apply AS5, if you haven't done so.

u have an idle temp of 60C? thats bad...
what are your load temps?

and u have your g0 @ 400x9 but for only 5 hours of p95? def needs to be more like 24 hours...
or try OCCT beta: 2h of RAM, 2h of CPU...

Meh you are probably right. And yes I did some research before applying AS5 so it should be ok. Maybe it needs to "settle" or something. I will try to play around with some cooling variables to see how things go. I suspect its my high Vcore though.

I was too anxious to use it for games so I didnt really left it for long. However, any lower voltage and I will always get 1 core failing in P95. Sometimes it won't even boot into Windows. I will try to reduce my voltages and then try using OCCT beta as suggested.

edit: 53oC is the max idle temperature recording at around 23oC room temp. What I mean by idle is just using the PC for web browsing and nothing else.

Also anyone with similiar board+mobo (and almost similiar case and cooling setup) having better temps at my speed?

Should I just push it down to 3.2Ghz where I can run it at stock voltage? (i think).

We need to know load temperatures. Does the 70C figure in your sig come from running Prime95 at your new speed? If so, that's pretty reasonable.
