Are these burgers still okay?

I went looking through our freezer a couple minutes ago and saw some burgers from Oct 10th of last year. They've been in the freezer the whole time since then. Now, I know that keeping them in the freezer helps preserve them, but being dated Oct 10th (2001) would probably make them bad, or am I wrong? hehe.

I know, stupid question.. but I have no idea how long things are supposed to last in the freezer. Hell, I eat fast food like Subway almost all the time and I almost never cook. 😛

As long as they are completely frozen, they are safe. Make sure you cook them well-done.
Actually for old burgers I find microwaving on high for 30 minutes is great.

Beef stored at -10 to 0 degrees Farenheit is good for 9-12 months. If stored between 32 and 34 degrees Farenheit it is good for 1-6 weeeks.

The expiration date on such things assumes that you will keep them frozen the whole time, so your argument that "I kept them in the freezer so that should extend the expiration" doesn't work.
Check the date again to see whether they say "Use by", "Sell by", or "Best by"... that matters.
If it's "Use by", I strongly suggest throwing them away. The two others should be safe for you.

It *might* be safe but I wouldn't risk it. Besides, it probably will taste like sh*t so if I were you, I'd rather go to Safeway and grab myself a nice $3 pack of extra lean ground beef and make my own burgers.

Microwaving on high for 30 minutes would scorch them or entirely disintegrate them, wouldn't it?

Well.. it will ensure the destruction of harmful bacteria. 😀

Only if you watch them. Walk away and do something else and come back and they'll look like a master chef grilled them.

They're probably safe to eat, but they won't be very tasty, unless they were vacuum sealed and constantly kept at near 0 F.

They won't make you sick if fullly cooked but it is highly likely that they are freezer burned and thus should be disposed of.

Yeah, I just noticed that (they were in a couple players of packaging with the label on the outside).. there is, well, multiple players of freezer burn.

They're going in the garbage.

Yeah.

Soak the sucker in olive oil and cook it in the George Foreman grill. 😀
