Are these big problems with dual cards... microstutter, input lag, and scaling?

Should I consider 5850 * 2, or just stick to a 5870?

The problems aren't "big" nor do they happen often. It's blown way out of proportion. Just make sure you have a power supply that can handle the card and enough room in your case.
