are there some compact fluorescent "bulbs" that are shorter?

I have this "200W equivilent" compact fluorescent "bulb" and it's great except that it sticks really far out of any fixture I put it in. the lower wattage "bulbs" are shorter, but I'm wondering if there's any brand that makes high-wattage ones that aren't so long

I haven't personally seen one...but why do you need 200w? That's a LOT of light and most fixtures are not made to support that much light (the heat coming from it).

CF's are different, a CF rated at the equivalent lumens of a 100w bulb only draws 25ish watts of power, so if all things were equal the equivalent of a 200watt in lumens on a CF bulb would only be 50ish watts of draw which would have less residual heat output than a 60watt light bulb. CF's produce a LOT less heat.

the ones i buy from Costco are spiral, they are fairly small/short

are you talking about the spiral ones or the straight ones?

ahhhh...did not know that. Thanks!

yeah I'm talking about the spiral kind, but ANY kind would work. It seems like they always have more twists the higher the wattage

yes, they have to hold more gas to put out more light (i think)

maybe you should just wait for the new LED lights they are working on
