I have a room available in my apartment so I posted an ad on craigslist and I've gotten a couple replies that sound oddly similar for some reason:

Hello to You over there and how is your day going? I saw your advert that You have a room available for rent and i am interested in knowing the availability of the place and i will also want to know more about the neighborhood ,the place and the utilities included...? I am [name],a Medical Humanitarian Nurse ,and have been involve since the past 8 years, taking care of the motherless babies,Homeless one and all of that,I am still kind of young because i just turned 27yrs old...I Can speak both English and french.,i love to live with clean people, caring, responsible, neat type. I'm 5'7' straight, and i am in Alaska now ,I will want to move in by end of the month depending on the availability of the room ,I speaks English fluently ,so we have no barriers I'll let You know more about me if i am to rent this particular room that you have to offer I will be anxiously waiting for your next email.
Kind Regards

I am 23 and I am male from Turkey. I have double major in electronics engineering and mathematics at Sabanci University, Istanbul. I have been living in an apartment for five years with two of my friends from my university thus I know how to live and behave in these kind of environments. I come to BU to study mathematical finance as my master degree. I am responsible and neat person. I also love music, movies, art very much. I am friendly, outgoing, fun, tolerant. I am looking for a place that is comfortable and quite as well. I plan to arrive Boston on August 20th. I have no pets and I do not smoke.

edit: ok what the fuck?

We're 3 international exchange (J1) students, will be working in Boston during summer. We're all male and will be staying till the end of September. We can move in immediately.

Are there only international students looking for apartments on the entire eastern seaboard??

The 2nd and 3rd sound legit. First, there's a lot of detail, but I guess it's not bad to have when you're having someone move in. It is definitely possible for them to be real and not a scam.

The grammar is definitely not typical nigerian scam mail..

They'll offer to send you a check that's bigger than your asking price and then try to have you send the difference back to them. First check is fake, you'll lose the money you send them.

First is a scam (somehow), 2nd one sounds fine, 3rd one sounds creepy.

Sounds like you have some great choices so far.

I guess I"m more shocked at the international flavor of them. If I go with the Turkish fellow, should I make him admit that the Armenian Genocide happened as a condition for him moving in?

Well, that's when you know it's a scam.
