Are there are no previews up yet for the improved GTS out in Nov?

Yeah, I'm more interested in this than the GT everyone is talking about.

Nope.

I think there's less excitement about this because it sounds like just a standard G80 product; 640mb 8800GTS but with less of the stream processors disabled (or none, depending on if its 112SPs or 128SPs).

Since in shader intensive situations the 8800GT almost matches the GTX, the new GTS will be even closer in that respect. If that's the case, then the only time you can really differentiate the new GTS and GTX will be in a strategy games or RPGs, when the increased bandwidth comes into play.

I guess you could attempt to simulate the new GTS if you wanted by seeing what the results are if you OCed the shaders up to 2000MHz.

Wouldn't you expect to maybe outperform? That's what I'm hoping for.

yacoub, the NDA lifts on Monday? I'll keep an eye out on it then

Hmm, are you guys implying that the new 8800GTS has same architecture as the 8800GT, but with even higher shader clocks? I thought it was just the same clocks as the current 8800GTS but with a greater number of SP's. Somebody please clarify to me. I've been saving money for a new gfx, and up until now, I've been planning to buy the 8800GT, but if the new GTS is going to have higher clocks than the GT, then I'm so gonna wait!

Just a note: Is there actually ANY OFFICIAL word from nvidia on a rev. 2 8800GTS?

Added NVIDIA G92 graphics processors family support. Now RivaTuner's driver-level tuning and low-level features including overclocking, monitoring, diagnostics and fan control are available on NVIDIA 8800GT and other upcoming G92 based NVIDIA products.

;)

Care to speculate on what these "other" products might be? If a new GTS comes out then the GX2 in short order I might be owning and selling all of them including the GT. I need something faster than this GTS 320 and with no solid info I guess that is what I will have to do. I mineaswell just get the EVGA and step up to one of them.

Yeah..it is still rumor. Too bad you can't get a SLI motherboard with two truw x16 slots for under $200. I would consider SLI if there was a good deal.

No, the new 8800GTS is unlikely to to based on G92 architecture.

Reasons
1) nVidia still has 8800GTS 640mb listed as active products this fall
2) nVidia has stated you can SLI the old 640mb with the new GTS (would make no sense if it was a 512mb 256bit part).
3) nVidia has stated it will simply sell as "8800GTS 640mb OC"

So that would mean a 90nm with just 16 more shader units. That would only add at most 10% to its performance. It may not OC as high either. The only reason to get it over the GT would be for the aa and af boost. It would probably still lose in Crysis to the GT though as a GTS 640 OC2 lost by quite a bit to the GT on high settings according to the Neoseeker review.
