my problem is that i have a socket 754 mobo, which has agp slots and ddr ram.

i have a 6800GT and 3400+ amd 64 processor with 1.5 gigs of ram. are there any ways i can improve the processor and mobo cheaply while keeping the ram and GPU (and all my other stuff)?

thanks

I don't see the point.
I have:
6800GT
2x512 RAM ddr1 Corsair Value
AMD 3200+ (socket A, 32bit)
NF2 mobo

It's a balanced system. I don't want to get more powerful GPU because I will be bottleneced by CPU, and vice versa = if I get killer CPU/RAM, I will be bottlenecked by video card.

Just save up for next $1000 upgrade 🙂
(Example of such upgrade today would be Quad core 6600, 4GB ram, 8800GTX, intel chipset mobo.)

I keep going for the entry-level Dells from the Small Business site. I usually just add memory and I'm good to go. I haven't bought a new system in over 2.5 years...and currently have a 2.8ghz P4. It's still sort of fast with XP Home, but I'm itching to upgrade soon.

My problem is that I can't decide how much of a system I want since I'm not gaming as much as I used to and my system can handle BF2 since that's all I play.

I'm making an assumption that the top-end Dual Cores are going to be cheap by Fall when Quad Cores flood the market. If you wait until the end of Q3, Dell may have some cheap ones on their site to snag before they try to dump all of their new inventory on the Xmas crowd.
