I'm not a stupid person but I have to confess I don't get how to do some of the things I'm seeing described. I currently have ATT on a Galaxy S3 with 5gb plan/mo. I can set up the phone as a hotspot (without using an app) but it uses my 5gb.
We have HORRIBLE internet service in our area - with limited options - and it's been down now over two weeks and I was informed by a neighbor they don't plan to repair our tower. I've used up my 5gb in half a month now. So, would love to learn how to tether freely and unlimitedly. I am set up to receive emails and would love to hear from any of you very very tech smart individuals on how to accomplish such a thing. Thanks much in advance!

I know this is a old thread but what I went through with Verizon is this in order to keep the unlimited 3G on the hotspot and NOT give it and yet be able to update phones on contract was i had to seperate my contract into 2 parts. One contract for my hotspot by itself and one for my phones. Now i will not have to give up my unlimited plan no matter what I do with my phones. Hope this helps others dealing with the threat of giving up that unlimitied plan for a phone upgrade or minute plans. Best of luck

Ok here is the answer you all have been waiting for.

UNLIMITED 3g/4g INTERNET and how to manage it

its only $15 per month!

What you do is go to www.Freedompop.com

sign up for their PHONE SERVICE
you may have to buy a SPRINT phone if you do not already have
one of the BRING YOUR OWN DEVICE PHONES

one of their plans offers UNMILITED INTERNET on your phone
-- it is best to bring your own phone-- (ill explain why in a moment)

they give you 1 gig of 4G then drop it to 3G for the rest of the month
and you get unlimited

I HAVE USED 17 GIGS this month alone and TETHER IT to my computer!

If you buy their phone -- it has a custom rom on it which deactivates tethering after the 1 gig is used...

However if you have your own phone there obviously wilol be no custom rom that deactivates it..

ONCE YOU have your phone set up
you will need to have it JAILBROKE and then add a tethering on it

it works GREAT

~~ oh when you sign up they will also offer unlimited TALK AND TEXT
for $4.99 a month over and on top of the INTERNET

you have to atleast have this to start
but you can then DOWNGRADE your phone to their FREE CALLING & TEXT
which is 200 minutes talk and 500 texts per month

~~ Nothing wrong with a phone being your modem and thats its only use
$15.00 per month

IT WORKS GREAT

do you have Comcast? I upgraded my plan from 6mbps to 105Mbps, part of the deal is now I have access too all Comcast Wi-Fi 'hotspots' with my Comcast login and password. they have an app out there to see if there are any hotspots in your area, would this work?
