Are there any time travel games? Preferably role playing

I've always had an interest in this topic, but it seems gaming has never really released a game involving time travel that I'm aware of?

I guess Assassins Creed is time travel to some degree, but not in the traditional sense.

I'd love to see a RPG with a time travel plot - does anyone know of such a game?

From what I understand the game Braid deals with time travel, but it's a platformer and not an RPG.

There have been several games with time travel in some form or another, although most are from the 90s. Apart from the Journeyman games, Time Commando, Day of the Tentacle, Freedom Force vs. the Third Reich and Mission Critical all have it, and probably also Red Alert 1 and 3 to a lesser extent. FFvTR is relatively recent (2005) and plays like an RPG.

Mario is Missing.
Where in time is Carmen San Diego.

I also remember a really really bad shovel-ware game from the 90's where you had to kill baby Hitler or enroll him in art school.

If you like time travel, then adventure games are really the only genre where it was done correctly.

The Journeyman Project is probably what you're looking for.

Thanks guys. I had a look at the Journeyman Project and while it sounds great the game looks extremely dated. I don't mind old games but a game from 1993 is pushing it a bit. Would love to play a remake though!

Guess the options are pretty limited.

A remake was made in 1997 called Journeyman project: Pegasus Prime.

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, maybe? I myself have never played it, but I often read that it's all about time traveling with some artifact.

The original Journeyman Project is pretty weak. I played it a few months ago for the first time. The pre-rendered graphics hold up fine today, but the game feels like one of those "interactive multimedia" titles we had in the early to mid 90s. It's very short and has almost no actual gameplay or puzzles, aside from just clicking through things. The later games in the Journeyman series are supposed to be a lot better though.

I used to love Millennia:Altered Destinies - you wander back and forth in time in a space/time ship, making decisions for a few alien races to guide them to maturity so that they invent upgrades for your ship , ultimately to repel invaders from another galaxy. It's an old DOS game, but the most directly you-controlling-time-travel game I've ever seen.

Now that you mention it.... why hasn't anyone done a game based on this in a long time?

Much less anything the average person recognizes

Oh man, the Journeyman Project was EXCELLENT. Although I don't remember if it was the sequel or the original that I loved... It was the one where you could go to an Aztec temple, Dark Ages France, daVinci's studio in the Renaissance, and best of all, a kickass asteroid space station!

It was a puzzle game, really.
