mine's 7.5lbs. I want something lighter, but I love my glossy Ultrabrite screen. :p

I just bought that laptop for my sister and it is really nice. I got the ultrabrite screen with the extended battery. It is a lot smaller than the Inspiron 6000 too.

Yeah, the Inspirion 6000 is just huge. I would probably get the 460XL if you could get a higher resolution screen than 1280x800.

I really like 1280x800. I have a friend who has a Dell with like 1600x1200, you can't even read the text, it's ridiculous.

I'm on the fence about Gateway. Their build quality isn't fantastic, but their machines are very powerful. Ho-hum...

I can certainly respect people getting Thinkpads (can't think of anything else considered to have really exceptional build quality), but as disposable as laptops are I think I'd rather spend about $900 on my favorite Dell/Gateway/HP du jour then spend another $900 in two years.

I mean, right now I really like the ASUS W3V, but I have a hard time justifying paying $1800 for it.

You know, Asus notebooks are looking better and better, and they even have the glare-type screens. Reviews look good. Only drawback is that it doesn't have an integrated CF reader, which I love in my Gateway.
