Are there any sub-$100 tablets worth looking into these days?

I'm looking for a tablet for primarily reading books and comics on and maybe watching the occasional anime download. Don't plan on using the device for much gaming and web browsing will likely be minimal.

Any suggestions on a cheap tablet that will do what I'm looking for?

You can probably pick up a used Nook Color on ebay for around that much if you shop around and are willing to wait. You'll need to root it, if it hasn't been already, but the instructions for doing so aren't too hard to find. That's probably your best bet for all of the criteria that you covered.

You might also be able to find a Viewsonic gTablet is that range, but it has a lot of faults.
I don't think you might be able to find an HP Touchpad in that price range anymore either.

Nope, not worth your time. I've had a couple cheap tablets over the last year and the truth is you wont get your money worth out of them. You will hate the thing so bad you'll never wanna use it, so its still a waste.
Recommend the Kindle Fire if you want to save money. You actually get some good hardware for 200 dollars and if you dont like the Amazon experience you can root it.

I had a friend who picked one of these up when it was on Woot and didn't like it all that much. From my own time with it I'd agree. The screen is pretty terrible and I can't speak to the build quality in general, but his is already out of commission.

May also want to check Craigslist in the local area. There's always a chance you might find something good that's underpriced.
