Are there any SCSI experts out there

I have to test a couple of SCSI drives at work. Upon closer exmaination I have discovered that the drives are LVD. I have a standard SCSI card and lead, but i want to be able to test the drives to make sure that they work. My boss is also curious to wether they work or not, and has told me to find out the cheapest way possible of testing them. My thought was this, is there some sort of SCSI-LVD adaptor I can buy or will i have to go to the expense of buying a SCSI LVD card and LVD cable. I have only very basic knowledge of SCSI in general so any ideas would certainly be appreciated.

Kind Regards

Magtab :)

Generally, LVD drives are able to run in Single-ended mode (which is probably what your controllers are) Assuming that your controller card's connectors are 68 pin, and can fit properly into the LVD drives, you can just connect them, set the drives to SE mode (unless they auto-detect - check the manufacturer's website) and boot them up.

If your card is _not_ capable of 68 pin connectors, you can buy a 68pin -> 50pin adapter from Cablemakers or Corpsys.

I hope this helps.

I admin a server using an LVD drive on an UW connection, and my home system is the same. Just be sure your drive either will terminate itself or you have an active UW terminator. If you don't even have an UW card, you might as well upgrade anyway... and get an LVD card with some cables. The cables alone would be worth a good chunk of money, and make the purchase feel a little more economical for your boss...
