Its a wood deck, partially surrounded by trees. The leaves and other shit fall on the deck, and create some sort of super sticky black film/stain on the wood. Are there any soaps or deck cleaners (do they exist?) that would help me clean it?

We have a heavy duty 2600psi power washer. Its a pain in the ass to get off with just our power washer though. For what its worth, i know now that we should've put a clear protective coating on it. Next paint job i will for sure...because this is a pain in the ass and makes our deck look terrible lol.

thanks erryone

I think this is the stuff I've used before: http://paint-and-supplies.hardwarestore.com/50-270-deck-washes/thompson''s-deck-wash-170696.aspx

But I've only used it on stained and untreated wood before, never painted wood. It was pretty strong (if it's the stuff I'm thinking of).

that black film is some type of mold/bacteria growth. use a clorine detergent w/ your powerwasher. works like a charm.

There's some kind of a hose that the powerwasher has attached to it that allows for suction of detergents and stuff, maybe i will try that with whatever i buy. It definitely is mold/mildew or something, you're right.

Thanks for the tips...keep em coming

Get some cheap bleach. Put it in a bug sprayer. Dilute 50-50 or even weaker it you don't mind it taking longer. Spray generously on deck. Grab beer and let chemistry do your work for you. Most of the deck will be significantly cleaner before you can even get to the beer.

The power washer should work. Maybe the spray nozzle is not giving you the right spray pattern and water velocity. Try a different spray nozzle.

baloo, it definitely works...get too close and it rips the deck apart, and the higher level nozzles rip it apart from any holdable distance lol. its just sooooooo slow and inefficient.
