Are there any new tvs with Windows Media Extender built in?

I would like to have a computer with multiple tuners in a closet somewhere and the televisions connected to it and able to get television and other video content without another box.

There are TV's that can do DLNA. My Sharp 735 has it, and it works for the most part, but is not very intuitive (at least on mine). I'm sure that might come down to firmware implementation, however TV manufacturers generally aren't as forthcoming with updates/fixes as a standalone streaming box would be.

Media Center is dead. It was an awesome product that never was widely adopted. In fact moving forward with Win8 it's not even part of the OS and is an add on purchase further marking it's death.

That being said, as mentioned above, DNLA enabled TV's can play media center recordings. Only issue I've found is that video quality is *greatly* reduced compared to a full fledged Media Center Extender/X box. In my experience the video quality is very grainy due to the transcoding that is performed. This is on a Sony TV with DLNA enabled access.

Oh. Live streaming of TV? Yeah that can't be done. That's a direct fuction of Media Center and not part of DLNA. If you want that you are going to need an old Linksys media extender or an Xbox.

I see. Thanks. Just trying to make everything server/client-based. I'm tired of seeing multiple boxes connected to one television. Now that movies can be watched from any service like itunes/netflix/amazon, it seems like the old tv channels are the last hold outs. I just wished I could watch more than broadcast (or unencrypted) channels without a box...

The Ceton Echo should begin appearing in a couple of weeks. Supposedly it is shipping in quantity already. It's a tiny unit (3.9" x 0.8" x 4.3") so you could potentially attach it to the top of a TV and it would be relatively inconspicuous.

Edit: It will be more than a couple of weeks, more like a month+. When I read elsewhere that the Echo was shipping apparently it is only shipping to beta testers at this point and not to retail.
