G3 is 6 months away at best, the g2 only came out 3-4 months ago.
G2 sold terribly, and LG may want to sync more to Samsung's release cycle.

Seems foolish to me, since going opposite the Samsung cycle gives them time with a spec edge and there's no real SOC advance to throw in yet, but who knows...

I tried out a G2 today...

Man, that thing is OMG humongous. Though, one saving grace is that it is also remarkably thin...probably because the battery can be spread out so wide. So it doesn't fit too badly in your pocket.

Btw, it is so big that in portrait mode...they actually have more space than they know what to do with. Like, the software keyboard has this useless button on the left or right of it which moves it like 1cm to the...left or right.

LG could go either way with their strategy. I think going head to head with Samsung is probably the smarter move. Releasing later in the year would put them head to head with Apple instead.

G2 sold terribly

Do you have proof of this? Personally I hate the G2 so it would be interested if this is true.

OP if you want something the size of the Note III screen I don't think many new options will appear in the coming months. At least nothing that will be sold on-contract in US with LTE. The focus in America at least will be flagships in the 5" range and available for purchase in March/April.

If you want the Note III I advise getting it now.

yes

Anyway, it looks like LG's next phone might be the G Pro 2, which would keep them flip-flopped from Samsung's cycle.

I'm not surprised. I was very skeptical of the buttons on the back before it was officially released. I hated it even more when I tried it in person.

Any chance Motorola will have a new phone on the horizon? The Moto X came out in Aug 13 but spec wise it could have been released much earlier making it likely the phone was delayed. Recently the permanent price (non sale price) of the moto x has dropped to $399

It would be awesome if Motorola can have a step up strategy.

$100 to $150 for a Moto G
$250 for a Motorola based off Tegra 4i, Tegra 4i should be shipping soon
$399 for a Moto X
$600 for some new Moto with the latest and greatest cpu, 1080p amoled screen, big battery while still keeping the screen size about 4.7" (don't go chasing after 5"+ range.)
