Are there any less expensive alternatives to Under Armor?

The stuff is great but it costs an arm and a leg.

Phatj, try going to eastbay.com and seeing what products they carry. I know they carry a bunch of Under Armour type products.

I can vouch for the cold gear. It sucks if you're not moving around (read: wear a normal long-sleeved short), but if you're outside running around, jogging, etc. all you need is the cold-gear + a t-shirt and you're good to go in temperatures under 20 degrees F.

Its price is high because it has a superior product to the rest of the market that no one has been able to duplicate.

Try to find it on sale (although hard with your time constraints). Cold gear will usually go on sale whenever it starts getting warm again (May or so, after people stop buying it for baseball).

Well, it's underneath a long-sleeved uniform shirt & pants, so I'd have to be in the fire first. Is it bad that my uniform is rayon, too?

It's like spandex, but it's polyester & nylon.

i bit the bllet and bought a cold gear crew shirt for $45 shipped on eBay. This better be good (everyone that has it says it is, so Im assuming i will be satisfied).

I bought an UA sleeveless T for bball, and it's just the same as everything else. Most of the materials in most of the sports-wicking wear is polyester, as it has superior wicking properties. I just bought a shirt at Marshalls for 10.00 that does the same job as my 15.00 (on sale, reg 25) Reebok shirt at Big 5. I think UA, T3K, and the other big name products charge way too much for their product, and I think there are less costly alternatives out there. Generally, they are all the same.

Right now, I just bought into materials with X-Static, which has silver woven into the fabric. The advantage is that the silver kills the bacteria that make your clothes smell. I have one shirt already, and it works.

Just use something made of polyester, it dries 10 times faster than cotton. Backpackers have been recommending anything but cotton for years for just this reason.

Wal-Mart has some Athletic Works spanedex type stuff that is exactly like UnderArmor for less than $12. I just bought a cold-weather top for running this winter. No discernable difference from UA to me.
