I have Civ5 & BNW, still trash. I bought Civ4 at release, pre-ordered, I think. And it was light years ahead of Civ5 was at launch, which I also pre-ordered. Civ5 comes in the age of micro transactions and cutting features for DLC.

Unlike waterjug though, I despite 1UPT. That needs to be scrapped in Civ6, at least given the option to turn off. It was so tedious moving armies in Civ5 because they all had to be moved individually. And the game's crippling pacing problems, you'd have researched new units before you'd even gotten the first group into combat. Ie, in the time it takes to build a single musketman, you've researched rifling. By the time you get your musketmen moved into enemy territory or an attacking position, you've built several riflemen.

Was going to ask about the expansion packs, sounds like we both are looking for something similar in a strat. game. I think maybe having 3 or 4 units per tile would be nice.

Would be useful to know how recent you want the games to be. You also said you liked Simcity and Civ 4 so I assume multiplayer is not a necessity. If that is the case I would heartily recommend the grand strategy genre. Try the likes of Crusader Kings 2 or Europa Universalis IV. They're like the natural progression that you go through after "graduating" from Civ.

I would also recommend Dark Souls to anyone who hasn't tried any of the Souls game. The combat in this game far outstrips the likes of Skyrim or Witcher series. The multiplayer invade is also one of a kind.

Good to hear. Paradox's games can be overwhelming at first. Reading the forum / wiki can be almost mandatory on higher difficulty or when playing weaker nations.

You might want to check out some of the let's play series in Youtube to get a feel and what you should do (or not do).

It's been around for a while now, but take a look at FarCry3 if you haven't played it yet. I just picked it up on sale and I am pleasantly surprised at how fun it is. It's holding me over until I decide to finally install my copy of BF4.

Borderlands 2 is a BLAST. I am not sure if you consider this a recent release, but there are a lot of DLCs that you might not have tried yet - Torgue's and Tina's being my favorites.

FarCry 3 is definitely a great game.

To OP, give FC3 a try, I'm sure you'll get hooked the moment you see the intro video. Plus, being a sandbox FPS it gives you the ability to play the game in any way you want.

Also, have you heard or World of Warplanes? I've been playing this game for months, can't get enough...I suggest getting a joystick, for example a Logitech 3D X Pro for about $40 will make the gaming experience even more fun.

BF4 is also fun, I've played all the SP missions to get familiar with the controls and soon I'll be jumping into MP.

BF4 is pretty much g2g atm. If you buy it get ready for some 30GB of d/ls give or take.

"getting back into gaming" when did you stop? As there are tons of great games over the last couple of years.

Skyrim and Borderlands 2 have consumed most of my time over the last ~2 years (Well, GW2 notwithstanding--but I would never recommend an MMO to anyone unless they specifically asked about an MMO)
