Are there any good free screensavers out there?

I'm still running the basic "starfield" screensaver now that has been around for 20 years. I'm looking for something simple and not too demanding on the processor.

Are there any basic spyware-free screensavers available?

If you can find anything cool, please post it! 🙂

I use nvidia's geoforms screensaver, off of their nzone demo download page. That thing is so pretty, sometimes I just stare at the screensaver for a while.

Off after 10 minutes, or manual off with the power button. Screen savers are legacy in all but the oldest monitors, a waste of energy if left idle IMO.

This is the best free one I've found. It will initially have an "unregistered" marking at the top, but all you have to do is look in the properties and type ("I understand the Shareware principle"). The author then asks for a donation.

Also, you can Adjust EVERYTHING in the screen saver's physics engine. What the galaxies look like gravity, EVERYTHING!!!

Edit: Or join a DC project (check out the DC forum for more details)

I'm not using a screensaver, but when I did, I used a clock by qwhale. I really liked it, but it caused me problems on x64. I'm going to try it again on MCE.

If you have an LCD monitor, screensavers are not really appropriate. LCDs do not burn in the images, and all have backlights and inverters with finite lives. Therefore, LCDs should be set to go off or sleep rather than use a screen saver - which uses the backlight and inverter just as much as the working display.

basically yea , i just use blank -> powersaving modes in 15 min of inactivity.
no need to waste power when i'm not there after all..total waste. plus running the screen saver if its fancy probably uses a little more power for no good reason too. global warming, wastefulness whatever, its just pointless.
