Are there any good Aeron knockoffs?

I am looking at buying a new computer chair to go with my new AMD64 box but I have always heard Aeron is what you want but they seem to be running awfully high on ebay (even used) so I was wondering if anybody knows if there is a good knockoff brand that would have something in the $300 range.

Before you decide on an Aeron or any expensive chair, check around town and see if you can rent it for a few days. A coworker bought one for his office and after sitting in it for a few minutes, I was sure I wanted one too. Then he left for a couple weeks on business and let me use his chair. After a few hours of actually trying to work in an Aeron instead of just casually sitting, my back started hurting. I no longer want an Aeron and I'm glad I didn't blindly buy one. There's alot of wisdom in the saying "try before you buy."

That's actually some great advice. Your chairs is one of the most important things if you work infront of a computer all the time (next to monitor). I've sat in Aeron chairs for extended periods of time, and honestly, I'm not that impressed with them. I've sat in $200 office depot chairs that were more comfortable. I'd certainly try before you buy.

Its a material from "Parkland Plastics" go search AVSForum for Parkland Plastics.... It runs about 50 bucks shipped from them.

As for the other comment, I was gonna look around. I have a feeling the reason your back was hurting was because its not used to sitting upright like that all the time. I have one of those crappy office depot chairs and I slouch in it way too much which was part of the reason I was looking at aeron...

I was actually looking more at the Mirra Chairs from Herman Miller, they look like a cheaper version of the Aeron, anybody have this chair and can compare it to the Aeron?

IKEA has some chairs which look a lot like the Aeron chairs. I wouldn't even consider buying a used chair. If you want something like an Aeron chair, with a lot of adjustments, but regular foam (not mesh), I would look into http://www.ergogenesis.com
