It's quite a lot of work for not a lot of pay from what I hear. RN or MD is a more lucrative way to go, although at this point going into MD might be a little long and tedious.
But every other doc thinks you're an idiot, especially the surgeons.
I was an EMT beofre med school is LA County for a summer. Nothing super exciting, a lot of car wrecks and the like. Pay for EMT's stunk, like $10/hr, paramedics were a little better. If you can get in with a fire department, the pay is better but the competition for those jobs is tougher.
I think nursing is a great field as the demand is fairly high and the pay is great. In recent years I think the pay has attracted some of the unwelcome element but that comes with the territory I guess. Becoming a specialized nurse (OR, ICU, research) is a good way to go as well.
Personally, if you were going into nursing I'D try for a CRNA (Nurse Anesthetist). Your pay would be around six figures and you'd get to do fun procedures all day as opposed to cleaning up poo.
