Warez: the technical term for "borrowing" software from a person or FTP site, installing it, registering it using the same key as probably 50000000 people before you...

basically, its whats also refered to as "piracy"...

unless its pron, the its not piracy, its fun!!!

well i dunno, warez sounds more like a noun than a verb to me. i think it's a variant of "wares". just like crackz and appz.

Yeah, but BBS's of old had message boards, downloads, chat, etc. Usually only one person connected at a time. Maybe two or a few. That's why auto-redial modems used to be such a big thing....

Dunno... i think i've telneted to one a few months ago.. in netherlands... some of the more popular ones (of my era ie 95 - 98ish) were, shadow BBS, ISCA BBS, Monolith BBS, Brinta BBS... at its peak ISCA had over 1200 simultaneous users it think... the others were more in the 50-100 simultaneous users.... this brings back a lot of memories... 🙂

I remember the days of waiting up late at night (when long distance rates were lower), setting my 300 baud modem to autodial, waiting a couple of hours for the other person to hang up, and spending $10 or $20 in long distance money to download Impossible Mission. Thank goodness most BBS's had a daily time limit.
