Are there any banks that do not clear the largest debits on your account first?

I have an account with wachovia. Due to my carelessness, spending by my wife I'm not aware of, or other silly reason, I occasionally overdraft. This week I had a particularly bad problem. Someone may need to explain this to me in more detail, but I overdrafted 9 times because they were clearing the largest debits first, which results in overdrafts on the cheap purchases I had, plus something to do with using the money that was on hold from my debit card--like overdrafting off of that somehow.

I don't have ANY credit, so they won't issue me a credit card. I currently don't have enough money for savings to avoid this sort of thing. Is there any bank out there that is easier to deal with in this capacity?

I can tell you with certainty that Bank of America processes all credits for the current day before debits.

they make more money that way

it is on porpoise

find a bank that will give you some level of overdraft protection or like my credit union, they only charge $2 to automatically withdraw enough to cover it from savings

otherwise, you might be better off closing the checking account and going back to cash. with cash, you can't get hit with crazy fees

good luck
