Are there any 5.5 - 6 lb 15.4" WS Centrino notebooks out there with decent DX9 graphics?

The Z71v is about 0.5lbs heavier and about 0.1-0.2 inches thicker. Personally, for the upgrade to the GF6600 I would do it. The MR X600 is a 4 pipeline GPU, like the MR X300 & the older MR 9200/9600/9700; its just higher clocked than the MR X300. I'm almost positive the GF Go 6600 is an 8-pipeline GPU and Asus does not use the crippled "TC" version. That is a significant step up in performance, NVIDIA has the neat "PureVideo" drivers for video watching (I'm sure you're familiar with that), and the Z71v is a great value.

My buddy bought one and he loves it; I still have yet to see it but he takes it with him a lot. Personally I wouldn't care about 0.5lbs (c'mon, are you a wimp!?!?! 😉) and the thickness is less than ideal, but still not bad for a 15.4". I guess it all comes down to how much of a value you put on the GPU!

I put more value on thin and slim than on a GPU that I won't use that much. And call me a puss, but I don't care much for the all silver body 😀

If you're okay with the GPU then the Z70v looks like a great machine. If you want I"m sure that X600 will clock up some more and modded drivers (Omega or official ATI using the Mobility Modder) will seriously up performance. I remember on my T42 w/MR 9600 I was able to play NFS:U (NFS, ha!) at 1024x768 w/medium details. With modded drivers I put it to 1280x1024 (most allowed by game) @ highest settings and it was butter smooth. Altho IBM drivers are built for stability & not performance, so you may not see as much of a performance gain.

Hehe, I'm just not a big dan of that Z71v. I'm mulling it over, but I think I'm gonna break down and order the Z70v tonight. Ahh, $$$$$$ 🙁😉
