Are there 775 MBs that don't allow FSB modding?

For an E6850, is there a specific motherboard I have to look for in hopes of 3.6Ghz, or can I leave that off my mind when selecting a MB?

you have a much better chance of getting to 3.6Ghz cause its only 600mhz away....i'd just pick some decent asus/gigabyte/abit motherboard and be happy with it. also make sure you have some good ddr2-800 ram as well.

Yup, the 800 is a given. I just don't want to find that BIOS does not allow the changing of stock FSB, so I'm wondering if I have to be particularly selective with the MB or if they are all capable of such a basic task.

you'll be hard pressed to find a motherboard that doesn't allow for tweaking the FSB. I swear by GA or ASUS mobos, heard many good things about abit too, go with the P35 chipset if you're on a budget, X38 if you have cash to spare.

What these guys have told you is correct, except for nearly all of the Intel brand motherboards. Only a couple of them allow any FSB changes at all.

Made by Intel as in the entire motherboard not just the chipset? I've yet to come upon a retail Intel motherboard, is this the type of thing you would only find in a Dell? I don't think I have to worry about that

No, Foxconn makes Dell motherboards. Intel sells their own motherboards. They are very solid but offer very little tweaking.

Yeah, like jon said, the actual motherboards sold by Intel. The boards sold by other companies, with Intel chipsets, are always the best overclockers of them all.

Yeah, it was good, if you had a processor with a fairly high multiplier. It and the original BadAxe were the only two Intel motherboards that allow any overclocking at all, unless something has changed very recently.

Technicaly Intel branded motherboards are actually made by Foxconn as well. They use to be made by Asus. But other than the BadAxe/BadAxe2 I've never seen an Intel branded motherboard with overclocking features.

The p35 chipset is respected for its OCing ability. I'm a big fan of the Abit IP35-E. Cheap and very "tweakable".
