Are the USB headers on an A7N8X-X also 2.0?

My Kingwin KT-424-S has two front USB ports and I'm almost positive that they're USB2. I also thought that all four (two rear, two header) of the A7N8X-X's ports were USB2. However, when using my front ports I am only able to get a few MB/sec, sometimes less. How come my rear ports can get 20+ MB/sec but the front ones can't?

Look up your case manual. The chipset (circuit board etc..) for the front usb port on the case might be usb1.0 like mine are with my Antec case.

There are three different USB 2.0 speeds.

Low - 1.5mbps
Full - 12mbps
High - 480mbps
So does that mean the case or motherboard can claim that they're USB2, but as long as it doesn't say Hi-Speed that it could be as low as 192 KB/sec?

But, Kingwin is a good brand name, and so is Asus, neither of which are known for ripping off consumers. So if I in fact have either case ports or motherboard headers that are LOW or FULL USB2 and not HIGH, what kind of cases/boards DO provide for front ports that are Hi-Speed USB2?

Either it's a software issue where drivers are not working (but your back ports indicate otherwise). Or it's a broken/malfunctioning wire/pins on mobo/or front case board. Or the case had 2 revisions 1 with usb 1.0 and 2nd with usb2.0 (as in my antec case) and you got the early edition.

Did the Asus board come with an optional usb expansion board (where it hooks up to the extra usb slots)? Try using that and if it works then its the case.

Excuse my ignorance...

How can the front panel USB connectors not be USB 2.0? Even if they say they're 1.1 aren't they just direct connections to the motherboard? Its only 4 wires isn't it? It should be dependant on what the headers support, not the front panel connectors. Please tell me why this is not true if I'm wrong.

So does that mean any front USB ports can support 2.0?

Well, I'm not sure what it is, then. I usually get 20-30 MB/sec with my external enclosure plugged into my rear ports, only a few MB/sec with my jump drive plugged into a front port.

Nope not for me. My front panel usb connectors have a pcb board that connects to the mobo. It's rated as usb1.0 or usb2.0 (low). It's [/b]compatible[/b] with usb2.0 but it won't reach usb2.0 speeds (480mbps). I would have to call antec and buy a new front panel connection for my case to upgrade to usb2.0 (hi speed).

edit: points to the post above, the USB2.0 has different tiers of speeds. I think what arch meant is that his front panel is not reaching "hi speed" usb2.0 but instead is reverting to "low speed" usb2.0.

double edit: speaking of which I just called ANTEC and they are going to replace the front ports for free by sending me the usb2.0 compatible board. 😀 Gotta love Antec CSR, just mentioned about the front ports being 1.0 and they send it out no questions asked.
