Are the s754 and s939 stock heatsinks the same?

I'm selling my socket 754 3400+ which is now replaced by a socket 939 4000+ and I'm not 100% sure if I still have the 754 heatsink, but I am not using the stock unit that came with the 4000+...so basically, are they interchangeable? I can't check right now as I'm at work.

Thanks!

They are completely 100% interchangable. You just want to make sure that what comes stock on a 3400+ is good enough to cool a 4000+.

The 3400 and 4000 both run on the same clock frequencies, so I think it would be good enough. Also the 3400 runs hotter since its a newcastle, which is 130nm :) .

I've heard some of the high end Opteron dual cores come with nice heatpipe heatsinks, alas my dual core A64 x2 3800+ only comes with the same exact heatsink that comes with my socket 754 Sempron 2600+, though with a different higher RPM fan. I mean, what was AMD thinking, putting such a crappy heatsink with the 3800+ that can't keep the CPU below 40ºC while overclocked to 2.5GHz and after running Prime? The nerve of them. ;)

Actually, all the socket 754/939 CPUs in my house (except for 2600+, haven't tested that high yet) can clock to about 2.5GHz. Two Newcastles, one x2 and one Venice. Have to try the Venice again because I didn't max it out but the other three max out at 2.5GHz. The Newcastles just get warmer, that's all.

I think the FXs, higher end single core Opterons and all 1MB cache dual cores come with that copper heatpipe cooler. It seems to be quite good from the pictures, but it looks like the thin fan could use a replacement. My Opteron 146 just came with the standard cooler that's on most A64s, although I have an existing XP90 I will be using instead.

The X2's come with a copper based w/ copper heatpiped heatsinks. THey are really nice wellmade for a retail HSF unit. I originally purchased an XP-120 and almost returned it because the retail would have worked fine :).

Anyways from what I read the 64's and some Opterons come with the regular no frills HSF unit.

Not the 3800+ that I got. Still, even overclocked to 2.5GHz it was barely warm.
