Are the returns on spam really still worth it to spammers?

The very fact that I'm still getting spam in my Gmail spam folder says that the returns are worth it. But it's hard to believe. I mean I know an idiot is born every minute but one would think that by this point everyone would know not to click on "get the 12in penis you've always wanted", "you've won 10 million dollars", "free viagra" etc etc... In order for it to be worth it to the spammers people have to be clicking on this stuff. Not only clicking on it and reading it but actually replying to a lot of it!! I can sort of understand why it worked 15 years ago, it's hard to believe it's still working for them in 2011!

I'm fairly certain the amount of gullible people in the world is, as a percentage the same as it was 15 years ago..............

Gmail has a really good spam filter compared to most. There are still plenty of people who get spam in their inbox.

I'm fairly certain the amount of gullible people in the world with a connection to the internet is, as a percentage greater than it was 15 years ago.........
