(though as far as I'm concerned the Europeans STILL stole the whole country from "The Natives", breaking EVERY treaty ever signed in the process.)

BTW: Did you know the Mauri of New Zealand weren't native to New Zealand either? The invaded and killed off all the people that were there when they showed up. (The government still pays them though...)

Where's my 30 bison and teepee?

the american native indians have a whole lot more in common with asians than with other modern races

What???

The Mauri are from North Africa.

The Maori are the indigenous people of New Zealand. I don't believe they killed off any natives since they were the first. I think they're Polynesians in origin.

The problem is that "natives" look different than white ppl. In Europe the same thing happened all the time, one country taking over another. But, in Europe, after 200 years ppl started to forget who was the "native" since everyone looked the same. Thus, it didn't matter so much if treaties were broken. Here, it was a little too easy to pinpoint who didn't "Belong" causing all sorts of racial issues, which we are still dealing with. Stupid white men and their inability to live up to their word, and their inability to welcome natives as an equal member of their society. If the "melting pot" would have been just a little more of that than an extermination pot, all would have been much better.

Oops I meant Maori. But you are wrong. They weren't there first and they DID kill off the "natives".
Or so I was told by someone from New Zealand.

everybody immigrated from noahs ark.

Ummm, if that's true, do you have some sort of time frame for this occurrence?

It must have been A VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY VERY long time ago for there to be such diversity in the world NOW. Or do you have another explanation for that?

Well a Pulitzer Prize winning book that I read recently disagrees with the guy that told you!

The Maori did invade and kill off people in other islands though. One case I remember happened after European explorers told them about some islands out in the middle of nowhere, so the Maori sailed over to these islands. The original inhabitants (who were also polynesian in origin) settled disputes peacefully without war, so the Maori slaughtered them.

inbreeding expediates the process. 🙂 Though it is much more likely that Noah's flood was more regional than the Bible makes it sound.

I'd be interested in reading that book. What is it called?

Thanks!

Hmm, interesting view. I just wonder when people say that they(Native Americans) didn't immigrate.

because people subconsciouly believe that western society is the end all/be all. sort of like how north and south america were "discovered" by europeans and the same way we will "discover" the rest of the universe. the proper name for the concept escapes me but it's basically self-centered thinking on a really large scale.

Manifest Destiny?

The island you guys are talking about is called the Chatham Islands. It's 500 miles off the NZ coast and is part of NZ. Around 150 years ago a Maori tribe sailed there using European boats and killed off the Morori living there. There is a lot of debate over if the Morori were just an offshoot of the Maori people, or a distinct race.

Either way, the European settlers were blamed for that massacre as usual. Why? Because the Maori used their boats. Heh.

As for the Maori they have only been in NZ for about 800 years. The government considers them indigenous anyway for some reason.

(and yeah, I know this topic is a week old)

What people were living here before the Native Americans?

Actually there were people here before the "Native American" and most likely the "Native Americans" killed them off. They find remains quite often that could predate "Native Americans" which do not have Mongol features. Unfortunately studying them is hard because we are required to turn over the remains even though they may not be "Native Americans".

Edit: I see Kennewick was posted. There are many others.
