Are the Jews God's Chosen People?

Yes, because God said so:

Deuteronomy 7:6-8 says, "For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a specal peolpe unto himself above all people that are upon the face of the earth. The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers. . ."

God chose the Jews for three reasons: (1) To be His witnesses to the World (Isa. 43:10; 44:8), (2) To preserve the Scriptures (Rom. 3:1-2), and (3) to bring forth the Son of God (Rom. 9:5).

If God had wanted to, He could have chosen another race, but in His sovereign grace He chose Israel to be His people. He chose them because He loved them.

Be nice guys! Don't flame.

The bible might say that, but consider that pretty much every other holy book says the same about "its people". And they believe it as much as you believe what the bible says.

first, you cant prove there is a god, the evidence is on you to prove it.

second, if you could prove there was a god, you cant prove that he/she/it said those things, because they were written by man

third, the old testament is full of holes. For some reason, i dont thing adam lived 900 years and also dont believe moses lived 500.

fourth, i dont believe any religion is "right" because that would mean the others are "wrong." So you are saying 95% of the population of the world is wrong?

I'm curious if this is stemmng from the "theologians" thread... it's a valid question... one that I'm logically trying to understand...

Why did God choose only one people?

Cuz then people'd have no selling point to get others to switch to their religion 😉

I like it how God loves everybody, and we are all his special children, but then again he loves some people more than everybody else just because... well, just because. Oh yeah... That's the religion for me. By the way, who wrote this part of the bible? (and dont say god...)

Not a flame really, but just a question to ponder (and this coming from someone of the Christian faith, so i'm not hostile to the group/religious document at hand).

If the Jews are the chosen people, why is Israel the promised land? I mean, like they say in real estate; location, location, location. Wouldn't somewhere like Hawaii been a slightly better choice?

You're talking to a desert people... it'd be someplace that had a steady supply of water and a defendable location.

Yes, God chose them for a number of things but he never imagined that his little practical joke about circumcision would get so out of hand.

So is that what this war is about?

Well I'll heat it up!!! Christians believe that salvation is gained through acceptance of Christ as your personal Lord and saviour. John 3:16. If you do not accept Jesus as your savior, you are condemned to hell. Thus...............Do I need to go any further with the true belief of Christians? Not a personal opinion, I have no problem with Jewish folk. I am not particularly religious!!

I sometimes think God chose the Jews to demonstrate His love for all the people of the world. If, after they turn away from Him so many times, and make so many mistakes, God still loves them (and I believe He does), His love must truly be infinite! 🙂

<< Guess it sucks for us non-jews then eh? >>

No. Consider Romans 10: 9 - 13: That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, "Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame."For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile--the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

whomever wrote the first bible is the one to ask as to why the jews are the 'chosen' ones. I for one think we as a human race need to worry about exploring space. If we put 1/2 the amount we as a world spend on individual defenses, we woulda had man to mars years and years ago. Instead the countries with the money and ability to explore space spend the money to maintain nuclear warheads pointed at each other and the rest of the world.

No, because there is no god to do the choosing.

God created man in his image, and man, being a gentleman, returned the compliment.

George Bernard Shaw.
