<< Really, I'm just writing this because I once fell victim to Western Digital paranoia in this forum and immediately replaced a perfectly good WD with the 60 gxp because of the reviews it got. Now everyone is damning the IBM and praising the WD. I now have two perfectly good hard drives so if one dies, I have a backup. Would I buy another IBM? Probably not now that its been damned to death. >>

Good point, it's like a trend. A few years ago it was maxtor that every one avoided, now is IBM. Who is next 😉

I would be the one laughing when the maxtor or WD hd starts to fail like the IBM's, and see who will be the manufacturer of hard drive to have 😛 Seagate, Hitachi?

<< It has come to my knowledge that only 5% of the entire 75GXP line were ever RMAd and/or claimed defective. In fact, their failure rate is no higher than that of any other drive brand from any other manufacturer. >>

And where did you get this statistic? Any proof? Source? I find this hard to believe.

I'd stay away from IBM for now. I had a 75GXP series fail after about 6months. What's worse is I even had an IBM U160 18GB 10k HD fail ! I've decided to switch to Seagate and Fujitsu.

They must have sold about 3 billion of them then.
