Are the current gen video cards all crap, or am I just unlucky?

So when I built my new computer a month ago, I originally had a Sapphire 7970 video card in it. The card threw artifacts and white texture flashing no matter what I did (or driver I used), so I eventually returned it to Newegg and bought a Gigabyte GTX 670.

Now the Gigabyte GTX 670 showed up DoA. I'm RMA'ing it to Newegg to have it replaced.

The good news is my old 6950 1GB card still runs like a champ. It's frustrating that I am having problems with current gen AMD and NVidia cards.

Am I just that unlucky to have 2 crap video cards in a row, or is there something wrong with the current generation of video cards?

Sounds like you got very unlucky. Is the flickering in dx9 games? If so, that problem is mainly fixed by catalyst 13.2 beta 4 and 3.

Yeah, I was told by lots of people that AMD will fix the issues with driver updates. I just wasn't willing to take the chance. My own research came back with NVidia cards simply having more stable drivers, and stability is what I want. I'm not interested in overclocking.

Of course, then I get a DoA card from Gigabyte that was supposedly a very quiet, cool and stable card. Needless to say I'm not impressed.

Still, sometimes you just get DoA parts so I'm getting Newegg to replace it in the hopes that the replacement card works fine. I just wasn't expecting two video cards in a row to give me problems.

Well you have been unlucky but your 670 certainly was quiet as promised so you shouldn't complain about that.
