Are the AMD boxed fan/heatsink ok to use.

Setting up new comp sometime soon and was just wondering whether using the boxed fan and heatsink on my 3500+ would be ok. I'm not gonna be overclocking and I'm not sure if a Zalman 7000B would fit. I wanna get everything hooked up than measure to make sure it does. So would using the boxed heatsink/fan be ok. It probably wouldn't be for too long.
 
The boxed HSF are just fine for normal use. If you get into serious overclocking in the future, you will want to upgrade but without the O/C you will be OK.
 
amd engineers... they are idiots and want your pc to explode with giant fireball.

its obvious! think about it!

1. design hs with barely or inadequate cooling for your processor
2. sell to end users
3. boom!
4. profit!
 
I believe the warranty is void if you use a different HSF or even change the thermal paste, but it's a little harder for them to prove that.

The stock heatsink would even be good for some overclocking--use an aftermarket unit in this situation only if you need something quieter.
 
I usd amd fan and heatsink for my 2500+ to OC to 3200+....
So the AMD fan and Heatsink is ok for normal use.

Well at the time I bought my 3500+, it was either 315 for OEM or 317 for Boxed, I figured 2$ was a pretty good deal for a spiffy looking box.
 
Non boxed processor only have a 90 day warranty, however. That is the reason why I will always stick to the PIB with the full 3 years. The way I see it now is that you only have 90 days for your warranty so go with whatever HS you want, heck even watercool the thing if you want. I am pretty sure it will last at least the 90 days and probably much longer as long as you don't abuse it too much.
 
I had a retail HSF on an AXP 3200+ (2.2 GHz) Barton @ 2.4 GHz. This was during the summer, and I even had a small bump (.05v) in Vcore.

The only time it overheated is when the ambiant temperature was over 32c.

I run Prime95 24/7, so Prime would crash when it got too hot.

The stock HSFs that come with the Athlon 3000+ are more than adequate for overclocking. And yes, using anything but the stock HSF voids warrant, but its not like they would be able to tell.
 
it is not safe. i use a Zalman and my little sister to blow on it. it is quieter than most HSF combos and doesn't require a mobo header for power.
 
Its fine...just keep it clean, too many times have I gone to someones house to fix a computer, and find out its an AMD, sounds like heat related problems, that HSF is a dust MAGNET! the fan blows dust onto the fins, they get clogged, and ive seen it even clog so bad the fan wouldnt even turn! oye vey!

just keep it clean every few months or so.
