Are the 5850s going up in price again?

I was just pricing 5850s and they all seem to be creeping up to the $310 to $315 range.

Where they sit performance wise in relation to 470, I'm not surprised at all. Curious if it's retailers in tune to performance and demand, or if AMD encourages the bump. The world may never know.

We do know however that those who jumped on them at lauch got a great deal, and have enjoyed their performance with no regrets in terms of waiting for the competition..

That sweet little Powercolor PCS+ AX5850 that was hanging at $299 w/free shipping for a couple of weeks is now $324.99 w/$7.56 shipping. That's a hella jump. The day I went to Newegg to purchase that card, I did a quick skim of the 5700 cards as I was also considering 5750's or 5770's in crossfire and lucked into a Newegg Mistake, they were (very temporily) selling a Powercolor 1GB 5750 for $69.99 + 7.56 shipping. Pretty basic card, but what the hey, I ended up with 5850 performance for $155.

I was going to post it to a few forum boards, but by the time I got through dicking around checking my Email verifying it went though it had already been relegated to "out of stock". By monday morning it had disappeared.

They have gone up here in the UK as well the 5850 was around £210 before fermi came out, but the cheapest one I can find is priced at £225 and that is on pre order

The reference design has really never dropped much, unless you get some kind of deal like Bing cashback. I tend to stay away from non-reference designs because a number of these are not volt moddable.

After shopping around for 5-series cards for a few weeks, I ended up opting for a GTX 470. At MSRP the 5850 looks like a much better deal on paper. However, taking into consideration real world pricing and an EVGA life time warranty vs. whatever you get from some random ATI vendor, the gap between the 5850 and GTX 470 is pretty small.

Just putting that out there as an alternative if the GTX 470 ever crossed your mind as an option.
