Are the $30.00 ebay replacement screens for iPhone actual Retina displays?

Just wondering. Wife's iPhone took a dive and I'm ordering a replacement LCD screen and digitizer. Prices seem to range from $30.00 up to $130.00.

Makes me wonder if the cheapies are substandard replacement parts and not a real Retina display.

Thanks.

Probably not

They could be iPhone screens that has been rejected

Its best if you take it to the apple store.

I got one for my iPhone. The fit and finish are not as precise as the real deal, but holding it side-by-side with my co-workers real iPhone 4s, they look and FEEL more or less the same. I think the cheap ones may not be optically bonded, but the touch response is on par, the screen is retina, and all in all, it is a fine, affordable replacement.

Now, the back panel that I got, that is another issue altogether...

I done many of these iphone 3g/3gs swap, the ebay stuff is not as well made, and some are slightly off, I now recommend going to the apple store and not buy these unless you want to deal with headaches..

Also many of the lcd/digitizer screen glue wears out.. apple must have a secret formula

Cool, thanks for the replies. My main concern was for the resolution. I think for $30.00 I'll roll the dice once on the fit and finish aspect and hope I get lucky.

If it doesn't work out them I'm out 3 trips to McDonald's or a half tank of gas basically.

This is exactly my experience.
I've had a cheap screen replacement for almost 2 years and and its beginning to behave weirdly.
Those $30 screen are fine. They are cheap knock-offs made in China but they will work just fine.
I did some search and there are vendors that sells the $70 ones and say that they are the same as the original ones. I would settle for the $30 personally.

As for the back cover.
I have not found one that is close to the original yet and I've gone through 3.
My problem is the glass/plastic hole that protects the camera lens are really bad.
I would turn on the camera between 2 IP4s and the original one is clearly superior than the replacement.
I think maybe the real one uses glass for the hole and the replacement uses plastic. Just a guess.

LOL, I like your way of thinking.
Buy one from a US dealer. Plenty of them as them for $30. Pick one that has a return policy. You will get your money back if you don't like the quality.

The problem that I have with mine is that the lens cover came unseated and now dust has gotten in there. I might just bite the bullet and order a system pulled replacement off of ifixit. It is like $60 IIRC, but saves me hassle and I know that it is the real deal.

YUP.
I messed with one to see why its not as clear as the original one and it came loose.
LOL, I might just keep it off as without it, its much clearer.

I think they can also get you with what kind of display--ie the iPod Touch has a Retina display but NOT a nice IPS screen with great viewing angles, color quality, contrast etc. Good luck anyway :)

Right, but the iPod Touch and the iPhone do not have compatible displays. My cheap replacement display doesn't have any viewing angle issues.

Well I got the cheapie screen... fit and finish was as good as OEM. The good news is the screen works perfectly, the bad news is now the rear camera doesn't work...

It's like it is just not getting power anywhere. even tried the flashlight app just to try and light up the led.. nothing. It has the funny little tab that sticks off to the right that looks like its conductive on one side. it was tucked up under some other cables when I removed the camera and I for the life of me can't figure out what is makes/made contact with.

i don't know if it makes contact with anything, but just make sure that you put it back how it was, and check to make sure that the connector is making good contact with the board.
