OT is definitely slower than it used to be. I'm guessing overall forum membership must be up though. It's just that the administrators broke the forum into so many different subforums that everyone who has a specific interest that they normally would have dumped into OT can now do that in a place set aside for it.

I don't have access to better data, but this isn't going in the right direction:

I don't know why you keep letting someone punch you in the face everytime you go in there

 That long ago? That was awesome. Now I feel old. That is not awesome :( On the positive side the links to his picture still works and his site is still around :p

Ha! I remember that too. What ever happened to Nik? I gather he was banned or left but I don't know the story. That was one angry dude . . .

Or, you guys need to just start trying harder as in posting more stuff and responding to more posts

How long have you been registered here? 40 posts and an average of 24 ppd... So.... two days?

Post another 10k times over more than a decade and then let's talk.

Speaking just for myself, life took over and I rarely post here anymore because I just don't have the time... I've again become the lurker that I was back in 1999. It's a shame when a person gets a job that actually requires work...

For me it's very cyclical - sometimes I post here many times a day, and other times I go months without making an appearance. Just human nature I guess.

I wouldn't be surprised to see most traditional forums on a decline. It's just not what people are looking for in their 'internet experience'.

It doesn't have the low expectations or ease of Twitter, it doesn't have the "Oh I'll get upvotes for this!" appeal of Reddit, it doesn't have the "taboo"/"underground" appeal of 4chan, it doesn't have the simple visual appeal of Imgur, it doesn't have facebook's circlejerk or bragging. I think currently the most popular avenues for interaction allow users to participate with extremely low barriers or provide incentive to just participate.

Whereas a traditional forum the incentive is basically just discourse.

The current generation only wants to read opinions and facts that they agree with. Any forum will contain people that have diverse thinking, and if kids of this generation don't agree with it then they avoid it or try to destroy it.

That, and they can't take their eyes off their cellphone (Facebook, Twatter, etc) or TV for more than 2 minutes to do this crazy thing called read.
Those damn kids!

I think the Purch people actually claim traffic is up.

I really don't see how. I've been noticing the last couple of weeks, whenever I refresh the forum index page, the list of logged-in members seems to keep getting smaller and smaller.

It's at least 1/2 to 1/3 as long as it used to be.

I actually wonder if there isn't a technical reason for this, and perhaps some percentage of these forum-goers, can't access the forums? (Cookies, internet routing issues, etc?)
