Are terrorists (Al Qaeda) monitoring chatrooms and forums?

Which ones do you think they would monitor? ATOT? AOL? ICQ?

Personally, I doubt they would bother with a tech place like AT.

Given their fundamentalist worldview, my guess is they're hanging out in various AOL adult-oriented chatrooms, and are swapping recipies on ICQ...

Absolutely on AOL chatrooms - to gather intelligence.

Judging how some of the 9/11 terrorists spent their last night boozing it up and getting lap dances it would seem that none of them would get much further than porn sites, especially if they have credit cards they never have to pay off.

I've seen a few posts here that made me wonder.

Have you ever noticed a new member start a thread about something like " a plane didn't hit the Pentagon" or "4000 Jews did not show up for work at the WTC"? Do you wonder what their motives are in starting a thread about something that is so obviously incorrect?

Perhaps I've just seen too many conspriacy movies.

Does Al-Quieda have a PR branch?

I hear they are monitoring the Hot deals forums, and then trying to pricematch in the Kabul bazaar :D

Al Qaeda started their insideous subversion of the American will many years ago when they introduced surfer music into our culture. Remember the Beach Boys song "She's So Fine My 409"? That song was a wakeup call for AQ sleeper cells to get their 409mm cannons ready to attack us.

Actually the terrorist are the ones that derail a perfectly good topic with BS jokes.

That's my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Personally I always suspected Ars Technica of being a strong hold for Al Qaeda.

i know a guy who registered an account with aim or icq (it was an instant messaging program in any case) beginning with 'osamabin'. he said almost instantly someone messaged him asking him all sorts of questions.

he's also into conspiracy theory and wondering if in fact it was some fed trying to follow a lead, lol.
