Stores often do things they aren't supposed to, like only accept credit cards for minimum purchase amount.. are they allowed to reject out of town or out of state checks?

I lost my wallet and the only way I have to access my money for a while is checks.

Stores have the complete right to not accept out-of-town checks.............more common to find that restriction in small stores vs. larger chain-type stores, though.

Yeap, stores can decide on their own whether to accept checks or not; some only take local checks; some take only pre-printed checks; some only take checks if your phone # and DL# are on them... it's not governed by agreements like credit cards are.

as far as I know, at least.

Stores can do whatever they want to in regard to method of payment. Most places don't even take checks anymore. Go to the bank and write a check for cash.

Yep. Checks are a pain in the arse to use almost anywhere because so many people try to write fake or bad ones. At GNC where I work, we need your phone number, drivers license number, and then we have to call it in through our system on top of that. It takes about 5 minutes to take a check.

A store definitely won't let you use a check with no ID, and if the people at your bank know you then it shouldn't be a problem. Otherwise write a check to a friend so they can cash it at their bank.

And after the 3-day hold clears, you'll have your money! :D

It might take the check 3 days to process but the bank will give you money right away. Depending on the bank they might not cash it all unless the person cashing it has the funds in their account. Or if your friend has the same bank as you it will be no problem.
