I'm practicing on some 600mg calcium supplements and it just won't go down my throat. It keeps getting stuck and I start choking. It is SUCH a frightening experience to try to down the pill.

Depends how big. If I had to swallow a pill with the diameter of a quarter, then no.

I hate hate the fcking round tablets that are huge and sometimes I feel it going down my throat. it's scary. Why don't they just grind them up and put it in capsules. Capsules are SO EASY to swallow. don't they think about these things when they design retardedly shaped tablets? Or at least make me take 2 of them and not 1 large one.

Must have had some "events" when you were a kid.

EDIT: Also take into account rate of absorbtion. Do you really want to take 2 pills that might effect your system twice as much for half as long?

That, and there is probably a reason the capsules cost more then the regular big round pills.

Larger pills often get stuck in my throat. I avoid taking them at all costs.

I used to hate pills when I was smaller, until I realized the trick is swallowing the water as if there was no pill... You will barely feel it going down then

Not sure how big we are talking here though

I've never had trouble swallowing pills, but I guess it helps when you're able to control your gag reflex.

water=cheating

I HATE taking large pills. Especially the vitamin pills like One A Days. I wish they'd be half the size and be Two A Days. I can do it but it sucks. I jsut try to get a whole mouthful of water and suck it all down at once.

Yea, but without water it sometimes leaves an aftertaste. I won't hesitate to without water, but water is so much easier.

You're able to swallow it without water?? I seriously think that's physically impossible for me and not psychological.

Do you think it's psychological?

No, i've never had any problems in the past. Just in the last 3-4 years. I got one caught in my throat...and it's happened 4-5 times since then. Maybe it is psychological...but i don't think so.

I think it might be psychological... I'm really bad with pills. I can do Advil/Tylenol, but anything bigger just refuses to swallow. Grown man taking chewable adult vitamins... where do I turn in my man card again?

As a kid I had trouble swallowing large pills so my mom bought some capsules and u could grind up the pills and dump them in the capsules. But then I grew old enough that I didn't need them anymore.

Rate of absorption is definitely one thing, but if you shape your pills properly, you should be able to get some sort of desired absorption rate. Furthermore, these tablets are usually vitamin supplements aren't they? I mean seriously, we're not talkign drugs, as those are capsules not tablets. I'm almost certain two vitamin tablets won't be any worse than 1 tablet. I think it's more important that they are easy to swallow.

Do you guys worry about which direction the pill is facing when you're about to swallow(for elongated pills)?

i used to not be able to swallow anything larger than an advil tablet or something, even then it took some coaxing with cheese or something. however, my tonsils were almost as large as my penis ( ) so having those big bananas blocking my passageway didnt help. i get them removed and now i can swallow the big pills like lortab...mmm...but now i'm allergic to it :'(

Actually, you can do some damage to your esophagus if you don't wash pills down with liquid because they're meant to dissolve in your stomach. If certain drugs (aspirin notably) stick on the way down and dissolve there, you can have erosion of the esophagus and that could lead to some serious problems.
