im sort of tempted to get one of these because they dont require a new door, so i can still use the same protective case. is this good brand, it seems to be the only brand out there and is it significantly better than the battery that comes with droid x?

I believe the extended battery I got for my old BB was Seidio, and it was good. I got one that required a new door though as the battery was quite big, but on the plus side the phone lasted for literally weeks without needed a charge :p

I had one for my G1 a couple of years ago. it wasn't one of the crazy big ones - it still fit in the standard compartment, just with 1400 mAh instead of 1100. It wasn't really any better. I've heard better things bouat the really big ones though.

they've been tested and shown to be nothing near to their rated capacities. they can still have more capacity than stock however. the ones that claim to be the same size with increased capacity are almost always lying.

thanks everyone. i read some reviews at amazon and it looks like they are problematic, at least with droidx--bad connecters, improperly registering charge, mediocre life etc..

best bet is to just get a spare OEM battery, or surround yourself with chargers. i have one at home, one at work, and one in the car. I'm never away from these places for more than 12 hours at a time, which means I never have to worry about battery life, even with heavy usage. your droid X has pretty good battery life to begin with vs. my nexus too.

I have Seidio's 3500mAh for my Droid Incredible and I love it. Yes, it's bulky, but I travel a great deal, and I absolutely cannot afford to have my phone die on me when I'm in the field. A few extra ounces of weight is an acceptable price to pay to make sure that never happens to me.

SetCPU + the 3500mAh battery gives my phone the ability to go several days with heavy use without any problems. Highly recommended for road warriors.

I have the similar battery for my Evo, when I first got the battery I was rather disappointed, but over the course of a couple weeks the battery life got much better.

Same here. If you can handle the bulk, I totally recommend this battery.

I suggested one of the Seidio 3500mAh batteries for a friend's EVO. He loved it. It lasts for several days. Then I rooted his phone and flashed a custom rom... He claims it lasts soo much longer now, and he forgets to turn off his 4G sometimes :).

Sooo.. Buy the huge extended battery NOT the smaller extended battery.
