are scallops the best food ever?

I love scallops and I even loved them back before they were cool and trendy. I don't even care how they're prepared. I've tried dozens of recipes that are as different as night and day and they're all good.

I love scallops too, defintely one of my favorite foods. I think a lot of people don't like it because if its cooked wrong its not that good. The trick to scallops is not overcooking it, the giants scallops are usually best when cooked on medium high to high heat for about 1 minute to 1 1/2 minutes on both sides. The smaller (and sweeter) bay scallops need even less time to cook.

These are both awesome. DC is probably the only thing I miss about living on the west coast (meh, ok maybe the beaches too 😛)

Unlike any other food, I get pissed off if I get undercooked or very overcooked scallops. They are too much a delicacy to serve unworthy (particularly large ones.)

I do have to take one point away from scallops, though, because I'm hungry again after dinner.

the good news is that scallops are so low-cal that i don't feel too guilty having a snack.

100 calories, 20 grams of protein, and 10 minutes from raw to prep'd and plated ftw.

mmm.. forget the prep/cooking. give me a plate of fresh raw scallops with a bit of lemon and its all good.

actually, thinking about it, i'll take just about any shellfish, fresh/raw. good stuff.

I realized a while back that I've thrown up every single time I've had scallops in my life. I must be allergic.

Doubtful. I am allergic to most shellfish, and the reaction doesn't include throwing up.

If you were allergic, you would notice your mouth start to itch, followed by difficulty breathing.

Fortunately I am not allergic to scallops, clams, and crabs. Lobster and shrimp, on the other hand...

yeah, i probably wouldnt eat them raw, but seared medium is fine. i like oysters, but not raw, i cant get to the "just swallow" it point and moving that texture in my mouth is just...weird.

while were at it, fresh blue crabs outta the shell is also spectacular

Best food ever? Not by a long shot

Best sea food? hmmm, no, I still prefer crabs, lobster, shrimps etc over a scallop.

That's not to say they are bad, they are delicious if done right! However, they are a bit easy to ruin by over/under cooking.

Food allergies don't always cause the same symptoms. For instance, some people show the reaction on skin and not the GI tract.

Whenever I see them I always think they look delicious, but I don't like the taste 🙁 Still, I try them over and over again hoping I'll like them because they just look so damn good 🙂

seafood is good, pizza is good, i love meat, veggies, dairy, and pasta, i'll try anything once because often times the most visual unappealing items are usually the tastiest...unless it's DURIAN, friggen piece of crap taste and smells like doodoo!!!!

Scallops are good, but not the best food ever. In fact they are a pretty blank slate, so it is as much what you put with the scallops than just the scallops themselves.

I LOVE scallops, but I'm gonna agree with KeithTalent here ... They are not very "strong" in terms of the potency of the flavor....
