Are rockband and guitar hero actually fun?

heh i actually got into these games like 2 weeks ago.

i picked up 2 guitars on sale at CC, and tried it out and it was fun, and my wife actually likes it too.

a week later i picked up a drum set at BB for $30 and 2 mics for $25 heh.

i was always skeptical about spending $70 on it when it was new but I decided to give it a try now and I actually enjoy it a lot.

although I will say i do feel like a douchebag playing the drums when nobody else is in my apartment.

39, enjoy Guitar Hero III and now World Tour as the drums are the best thing to happen to a console ever.

Normally my 2 kids and I play, but I will go at it alone on the drums as like I said they are the best thing to happen to a console ever. 😀

those of you who drum ...

do you prefer sitting or standing? if you sit, do you have a special stand?

i noticed my shin feels most comfortable when standing, but if I sit on a chair i will almost have a shin splint after 1 song haha. standing i didn't notice the feeling as much but it still was kind of sore after just 1 song.

I prefer sitting. You have to have your leg at the right angle (> 90 degrees if possible). Also, it helps to keep the pedal depressed most of the time. In the RB threads here there are more technical descriptions of pedaling technique too.

To various people responding to me earlier in the thread... GHWT and RB2 are pretty similar, but every review I've read indicates GHWT is inferior, and the reasons they state make me believe RB2 is a better group experience. YMMV.

Sit on the couch and adjust your angle so that your lower leg is straight up and down. One thing that helps with the fatigue of kick drum is instead of thinking I have to hit that note, I just find the rhythm and let it tap naturally. You'll get used to it after a while and don't even think about kicking, that's when you start twirling your drum sticks 😉.

I can pretty much wing expert on both guitar and drum now, not so much singing. I'm only an expert at singing when it's dark thirty in the morning, and at some sleazy karaoke lounge somewhere in SE Asia...

I like both, but Rock Band is better to play with other people. I've only played it on XBox, but hear dthe graffics are better than on Wii. Every time a group of people are over the house, it turns into a Rock Band fiesta. (I'm 25)

GH: World Tour is as much fun as Rock Band (has all the instruments) but IMO the Rock Band songs are much better

What, no way. GHWT's setlist owns RB1. RB2 is decent though. A good upgrade. Buy GHWT though cuz the drums and guitars > RB2. Then buy RB2 standalone for the setlist =). That's what I did.

BTW, don't get stuck on the Wii like I did. Can't play RB1 nor can you import. They made all the downloads so easy for XBox and PS3, so stick with those two. I was playing RB2 at a friend's place and I couldn't believe how much I was missing out on. Sure a bunch of the songs were from RB1, but there were so many downloads I was like OMG, I just want to keep PLAYING.
