are robocops the answer to police problems?

would robocops make the police process better?

  • yes, it would be better

  • no, it would be worse

when robotics becomes sufficiently advanced (soon), we can utilize robots that:

1. don't kill people, just pursue and subdue them, and
2. don't care about getting injured or destroyed

i think this may be the only way to end the occasional problems that happen when people and police meet

do you think it will make things better, or the same, or worse?

Fear is precisely why most people die.

Robots have no fear. That would help us with rules of engagement that allow for maximum public safety instead of trying to balance the safety of them VS the officers.

would the robocops be able distinguish between black people and white people?
if not, then lets build them now!

They'd probably be designed by old white people at Lockheed Martin with the help of white cops and military... what do you think?

you are way off base. it doesn't matter who builds it. if it kills citizens without taking race into account, that's a step forward. no more white cop on black people violence.

Except, it's the builder that determines how a robot behaves...

We need something better,... angels,.. or some sort of metaphysical being that can bend the laws of physics and space, to ensure the suspects is not harmed in anyway.

Is there a maniac lobbing grenades, while decked out in full body armor? Well, the police better not harm him! He has a right to a trial and proper medical attention!! Let the angels float in and disarm the poor man, who just wants to let the USA know how difficult his life is, because of the war on men. He just wants to speak,.. why would the police gun him down? Oppression,.. thats why.

The expectations on how police need to be better than flawless in doing their job is just awful.

maybe this happens just because of the statistics:

When we have a government that can be trusted with an inexhaustible 100% loyal robot army then we can consider this.

i agree, but if they could avoid harm and occasional bad judgement by using robots, i think it would be an improvement

Yes,.. now I see it!!

We can also load the robots with 10 to 15 cameras! One camera facing outward and the rest facing inward, towards the robot,.. we need to see EVERYTHING they do,.. all the time,.. from every angle.

:awe:

with great power comes great responsibility. police have the ability to more or less ruin your life - they can (not necessarily will) fabricate events when they are in the wrong, and without documented proof, you're basically hosed.

for example: the guy who was charged with ramming a police car. nearby surveillance camera footage showed that his car was parked and the cops actually hit him. had that footage not existed, how long would he have sat in jail for a crime that not only did he not commit, but also was fabricated by officers of the law to cover their own wrongdoing?

this is why we can and should hold officers to high standards.

Yes. There would be no issues with race. The robots would enforce their programming indiscriminately, free of all human emotion. Like fear/anger. Among others.

I see no harm in the government making and programing such a force whatsoever.

It would be good in the sense that corruption and profiling would be nonexistent but it would be black and white on legality, i.e. no such thing as letting off with a warning.

But... easier to implant microchips in everyone that can remotely incapacitate them.
