If you mean the Rayovac "Renewal" rechargeable alkalines, then the answer is simply that they are nowhere near as good as NiMH. IIRC, the Renewals can recharge only about 100 times, and there is a severe drop-off in performance by the end of their life.

I use the 1800 Rayovac NiMH and they work great, but have only recharged them twice, but my digital camera will eat anything else up.

Rechargeable alkalines aren't designed for devices that have high battery drain. I'd stick with the NIMH. :)

100 times? Try 10-30. Also, the more deeply discharged they are when you attempt to charge them, the less charge they will take in the future.
